5 Big Teeth Whitening Mistakes

Do you know the 5 biggest mistakes people make when whitening their teeth?

Read on to learn what not to do to get that brilliant white smile.

Big Mistake No.1 - People don't use whitening products that contain the correct amount of peroxide to whiten their teeth. Off the shelf or over internet gel manufacturers are not governed by dental regulations and they can contain too much peroxide making them dangerous to use, or too little making them ineffective. At our practice we only use the latest accredited gel brands which contain the perfect amount of hydrogen peroxide.

Big Mistake No.2 - Some people don't realise that it is actually illegal for anyone apart from GDC registered dental professionals to sell or apply the correct peroxide whitening treatments. At Burgate Dental Practice we are all fully trained, registered and insured to make sure we deliver your treatment in a safe and trustworthy environment.

Big Mistake No.3 - Poorly fitting trays that are not bespokely made by a dentist will produce unpredictable and less that satisfactory results. We only use high quality dental laboratories to make our bespoke whitening trays. The better fitting the tray the more predictable and pleasing the result.

Big Mistake No.4 - An absence of a dental health check before treatment could result in damage to your teeth and gums. Only a qualified dentist can make certain you are not putting the health of your teeth at risk by ensuring your mouth is healthy before you start treatment. We will only recommend whitening where it is safe to do so.

Big Mistake No.5 - If people with existing fillings and crowns don't get their teeth whitened professionally by a dentist they are unable to check that the colours will match after whitening resulting in mismatched teeth colours - and depending on where in the mouth they are that can be a pretty big mistake. Professional advice before you start treatment is essential to make sure you are fully aware of how the end result may look and you can plan to have teeth with fillings or crowns treated afterwards accordingly.
